Pokemon Contests, Senior. You're really missing out on a lot. I don't even know how to begin explaining...

[...Come on Ruby, he's all ears. Surely he can come up with some simple and not at all dramatic explanation for this, right?]

It's a... well, It's one of the best competitions devised for pokemon that I know of, though I may be a little biased. [You know. Just a little.] It centers around how well a pokemon and its trainer can personify one of five themes: beauty, toughness, coolness, intelligence, and cuteness.

First, the pokemon are judged on their initial appearances, and then in the second half of a contest there's appeals. The appeals round in an apricorn shell is about how well a pokemon can execute their moves in a manner that suits the theme. Mimi, for example: When she appeals she has to exude beauty, so we often use her ice moves to refract the track lighting on the stage onto her and the audience.

Ahhh, it's a wonderful thing Senior, working together with your pokemon to give beauty to an audience of strangers, and then experiencing their applause and pleased faces in return.

That's a... rudimentary explanation of it, yes.

[Why can't anyone ever act excited when he explains this?]

So you put a lot of time and effort into making sure you can show off your Pokémon.

You're saying that like you don't have to prepare your own pokemon for things.

Guess it's completely subconscious. [And now Silver's tail is swishing a little. He wants to hit it he wants to hit it he wants to hit it. Just once. Just a little smack.
