[There's nothing better to do after three days out in the cold and a chat with your best friend than to stare at your journal and idly contemplate whether or not interacting with People sounds like a good enough idea.

But something's on his mind. Or, well, a few somethings, but it's persistently sticking there enough to be worth asking.

To the journal.]

Could anyone tell me about leaders? [Well that's vague. ...Whatever.]

And while I'm here, what are elves? [...] And what's "tsun"?

Um...well? They lead the tribe. They tell people what to do, where to be, and they lead the charge into battle. So I guess they're sort of like generals, too, in that way.

We respect them and heed their council. They make the calls, and so we just kind of...go with that. I mean, people disagree all the time, but it usually comes down to what the chief decides.

Well, yeah, of course. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be chief.

[A disagreeable leader was a sign of weakness, and vikings didn't exactly have a high tolerance for weakness.]

Uhhhh...well, it's by heritage, usually. But occasionally new leaders oust the old ones. Viking politics aren't exactly peaceful.

That's just the way it is. The vikings don't have a high tolerance for spineless leaders.

That's true. But...sometimes people are strong even if they can't wield an axe. That's something the vikings don't quite get, though.

[Case in point: Hiccup. At least, he likes to think he's strong.]

Exactly. You have to have a strong mind, too, that can make tough calls in tight situations.

[That's the sort of thing he's much better at.]

Right. Iiiii like to think that's a little more my area than the whole 'brawn' aspect.

Err...yeah. That does...help, doesn't it.
