Crys, what're some of the first things you'd teach a new trainer with their first Pokémon?

Normally, the basics. How to take care of their Pokemon, how to battle, etc.

But since our juniors don't know much about Pokemon, we have to teach them all about Pokemon on top of the basics.

Then what would you teach them about Pokémon?

What everyone knows. Types, weaknesses, strengths, species. As much as I could.

Well, I'd go into an explanation of what Pokemon are. Specifically, species and types. That makes it easier to figure out weaknesses and strengths. [She'll set up a plan for you, Silver. A big, long, lecture.]
